Windows Linx Tablet - Viable alternative to netbook?

Thanks. I did get enterprise on but it's lacking drivers for the touch and most annoyingly for the wireless. Do you happen to have that working?

 

I used Double Driver to copy the drivers before I reinstalled Windows but on another one I tested using the drivers from here - mySN.de | SCHENKER XMG | Schenker Technologies - Then choose SCHENKER\SCHENKER_ELEMENT\Drivers\Win8.1 Pro

 

The only thing that doesn't work properly is the portrait/landscape orientation with the copied drivers using Double Driver or the ones from the website. It seems to think portrait is landscape and landscape portrait so I have just disabled it for the moment as I am hoping its just a registry key change or Windows setting when I look into it more.

Picked up the Linx 8 for myself today and I am really liking it so far :)

 

What made me choose the Linx 8 over the 7 was the desktop is quite usable by touch unlike the Linx 7 which I tried and was a bit more of a effort due to the smaller screen, but Metro Apps will be perfectly fine on the Linx 7. I also choose the Linx 8 as I couldn't get on with where the start button was on the Linx 7, it might not be a problem for some but because I have been used to the Windows button in the usual place on Windows Phones and tablets for so long it didn't feel natural at all. Overall though due to the Linx 7 and 8 having the same hardware they where both equally quick enough for general tasks.

 

Hope this helps for people who are looking to buy one. Also I found the local Staples has all 3 of them (Linx 7,8,10) on show so ideal to try before you buy.

Thanks. I find the same with orientation. Also battery is not showing and I think power management is wonky.

For info. The reseller that I used to buy our evaluation Linx 10.1 tablet has just informed me that there are 2 versions of the 10.1 tablet. A consumer version running hamstrung Windows 8.1 with Bing and an education version which is running Windows 8.1 Pro. Apparently they are the same price. I only found this out as it turns out we had the wrong version and our reseller is now ordering the correct one to replace it. We had the same problems as everyone here with screen orientation, power and network card drivers when we tried to rebuild it with normal a Windows 8.1 build.

 

If the Windows 8.1 Pro version works as it is supposed to and then this little tablet PC looks very interesting.

When you put Windows 8.1 on them do you still have the same amount of disk space free ??

 

Also did you fix the portrait landscape issue?

 

I can't find the education version anywhere, has any got the link for it ??

There isn't a link as far as I know as it was only made available to the reseller as a special education build, at least that is what I was told. You can't get these as Win8.1 Pro version tablets from anywhere but the reseller. "Insight" is the reseller I was using in this instance. However, I only have their word for it that it is exclusive to them.

@jamiehill1231 - My team were not able/didn't have time/lost the will to fix any of the issues described which was why I got back to the reseller. I haven't had the replacement yet so I can't tell you how much space is left on the 32GB drive.

 

I'll post back info when I have the replacement given the interest shown here.

Stock Windows 8.1 x86 with Bing

 

Used - 4.20GB

Free - 19.8GB

Total - 24GB

 

Fresh install of Windows 8.1 Enterprise x86 with Update 1

 

Used - 7.88GB

Free - 20.7GB

Total - 28.6GB

Also I would like to add the only issue is with the orientation (Portrait thinks its Landscape and vice a versa) when doing a clean install. Everything else works perfectly

The new Linx 10.1 Windows 8.1 pro tablet (education edition) arrived this morning. It does indeed have Windows 8.1 Pro 32 on it and to answer the previous questions it reports a disk drive of 29 GB. This is the stock build and is broken into 100MB EFI, 24GB C:\drive and a 4.88GB recovery partition. There is 19.98GB free on the C:\ drive. Currently all working exactly as you would expect and I am about to patch it with about 370MB of updates...

Have you tried these drivers to fix the orientation issue?

There is a registry hack in the Linx 10" Drivers G Sensor folder which does fix the orientation issue. Many thanks.

Download the drivers. Unpack the tar. Navigate to .\10inch\drivers\LINX10\2056+2056\G-sonser\20140626\ . Double click on the .reg file. Say "Yes" when asked if you want to do this very dangerous thing.

For those interested booted into WDS using a discover memory stick with drivers for my USB LAN adapter and captured the sysprepped image using ImageX

I believe the majority of resellers have the Linx10 PRO available to purchase, but only Insight have the PRO Bundle which includes the keyboard and case for the same price as the other resellers are selling the tablet only, circa £140 + VAT

Well, mine is being replaced because the battery has stopped charging to more then 10% which has me slightly worried. :/

 

I was trying to create an image of the disk before I started faffing too much with it (which is when I noticed I'd had it on charge for an hour or so doing some research and realised the battery wasn't charging, left it another 2 hours and it still hadn't increased), but not sure what to use to clone it - anyone have any suggestions for when I get the replacement?
