Getting UK Gov DVD-Rom on network

Hi guys,

 

Tearing my hair out here, hoping someone can help. Years ago, I was asked to put 4 DVD-Roms from the DCSF onto our intranet. They are SEN training materials, built by the University of Birmingham and are written using the worst kind javascript + frames + includes. They barely worked in IE, but we've since switched to Chrome and one of them just won't play.

 

The DVD-Rom in question is "Inclusion Development Programme: Supporting pupils on the autism spectrum" from 2009. I've searched the materials for contact details but no luck.

 

Does anyone else host this material and display it through Chrome? And if you, how did you get it to work? Another school locally had similar issues with their version back in 2009 and it turned out their DVD was incomplete. So, I'm wondering if everyone who got a copy, got a different version and if someone has it working, then maybe I just need new files.

That's it, but it's not loading in Chrome for me. Works in IE. I wonder if that means it's a firewall setting?

 

Just got a colleague to check and the link you sent works for her in Chrome but not me.....?

was that her on your computer, or her own computer? have you tried on her pc with your logon?

It was my colleague on her computer, but our PCs are standalone - not RMed, so accounts shouldn't matter. Our intranet copy doesn't work for her either.

I have it running fine on IE, firefox and chrome....

 

Maybe try it on a few other machines at the school?

 

Turn your computer off and back on again

 

just kidding, firewall could be a good bet.

have you checked chromes settings just in case its something silly?

I'm sure it must be something silly. Trouble is, I didn't go looking for this problem, it was reported to me.

 

I'm thinking my easiest "solution" might to point the link to a browser detection page. If the browser is Chrome, it could display instructions to use IE and provide the link as text. If IE, it could redirect. At least in the short term, until I find an actual solution.

UPDATE:

 

I spotted that I was signed into the browser on Chrome (in the brwosers settings). When I signed out and restarted the browser - suddenly it worked. I tried a few variations, I could even re-sign in, but if I have a Google Account window open (Gmail, Drive or profile) the Autism page will not load. I can't find any security options connected to my Google account, so looks like the path of least resistance is still to create a browser detection page. That way staff will be able to access the training materials always. Bizarre issue though.

Are you running any Chrome extensions, possibly by syncing extensions with your Google account? If so one of these might be responsible.
