Printer Cartridges

At our school we seem to go through so much toner and ink it is unreal. I seem to be spending up to a £1000 every month ordering new supplies.

 

I have 2 companies that I order from, EPass and PC Solutions, I believe their prices are good. Thing is, I order original cartridges because I have found compatibles to be poor (and they invalidate waranties!) so that puts the cost up.

 

Where do you get your printer supplies from and how much are you spending?

we have printer credits via RM. I personally think I charge a high price per page too! Lower school only able to print 25 black and white pages and 5 colour per week.

 

It is mainly staff printers that are printing away at stupid rates....

Some compatibles are worse than others.

 

Maybe you could list your printers and if someone has found a good compatible for that printer then that may help you?

 

All companies supplying compatibles as far as I've seen offer to replace a printer if it found that their compatible broke it.

Main printers that get used and are expensive are:

 

HP Colour LaserJet 2600

HP Colour LaserJet 8500

OKI C5900

Samsung 2010

Brother 5270

Brother 5170

 

I know that you can get quite good compatibles for the Brother printers, because of the seperate drum unit and all... but I've found the compatible drums to be rather useless!!

 

Also, how do you guys re-cycle your cartridges? I currently take mine to cartridge world and get some refilled... but that gets pricey too! I've got a nice large box from HP for recycling. However the other brands are piling up...

I box them up and take them to the Help the Aged shop in town, but we're a tiny school and don't use many.

There's a big difference in the quality of compatible cartridges. The more reputable companys will offer some form of guarantee, and if they don't then I would avoid them.

 

I work for the 2nd largest buyer of toners across Europe and we use the same company that Viking Direct use to have theirs manufactured. They are made in the UK to British Standards and my experience is they don't go wrong any more often than genuine toners.

We use QC supplies as well. Good prices and all originals. We were paying more for compatibles than some of their original prices.

We have started to use refil toner from Refill toner UK | Toner refill your empty laser printer cartridge | U Refill Toner Ltd. for our 2500n and so far the results have been very good. It was going to be 'archived' due to high print costs but is now back in service due to the low cost of refill tone available. Ours costs about £18 per colour and the instructions are excellent and the operation to refill the HP ones are clear and simple to do.
