ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Anybody else playing the beta or planning on buying the full game when it's out? I'm tremendously excited by this, it looks amazing and by all accounts plays beautifully. Here in the office John has bought the Beta, a new GFX card, and a new Joystick just so he can play it on max. Jealous is an understatement! Trailers, videos, wallpapers and screen shots | Elite: Dangerous
Dos_Box Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 It is the only game this year I'm looking forwards too. It can't come soon enough either. IIRC, Shaun has paid for an NPC called 'EduGeek'
ZeroHour Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Been playing it for a while and its amazing. What joystick did he get? He wants to get a RIFT DK2
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 I can't wait. Can't afford to buy into the beta now, but as soon as it hit general release it's mine! Gonna have to dig out the old Saitek joystick and throttle controll methinks... Hopefully it'll be out a while after Civ: Beyond Earth so i can have my fill of (not Quite) Alpha Centauri goodness first.
JackCPickup Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Haven't come across this one before, how does it compare to Star Citizen? Trailers, gameplay vids etc.? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen Gonna have to check it out after work.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 I couldn't possibly say. But the name Elite, and the guy behind it are both part of gaming folklore. It's a game that I've been waiting years for
CamelMan Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Im keeping an eye on it - tried a couple of similar ones since (X series, Freelancer, Privateer [#1came closest for me!]) none really got the same vibe as Frontier Elite 2.

Yeah me too. I liked the idea of Freelancer, but not the way they made flying through space like flying through water or something. X Series always been good but not close enough. And none of them have done docking in the same way that Elite does. Any game where the simple act of taking off or landing your ship can be one of the hardest parts of the game is brilliant for me
Dos_Box Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I have an old Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro in the office here. It's about 16 years old! It even has a USB adaptor. I may need a new one. 1
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 I noticed that last time I came over. It looked about as dusty as the coffee machine
witch Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I've pre-ordered it for mrwITch. Now I need to see about a suitable joystick - I know we have a few about the house
StevieM Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) I've not played computer games for aeons so forgive me if I sound like a dinosaur, but are we talking Elite as in Braben and Bell's landmark space-trading game from the 80s? EDIT: It is! It is! Just watched the vid and clicked on the link. Wow! I used to LOVE that game. I may just have to indulge myself. Edited October 20, 2014 by StevieM

And Braben it's still leading the way!
StevieM Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Eeek!! All excited about that! The only problem is games are all dead complicated these days and I'm useless. I just want to pitch, roll and fire!
nickbro Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Been playing it since the premium beta, using a Saitek x52 joystick throttle combo. v2 beta was a big step up.
DMcGuigan Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I've got Star Citizen, keep meaning to get this, but never got around to it. Holding off til I eventually get a flight stick though, thinking one of the Saitek HOTAS setups.

AlexB Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 IIRC, Shaun has paid for an NPC called 'EduGeek' Sweet! Already paid for my copy... now trying to talk myself out of an expensive controller!
ZeroHour Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I got one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-Joystick-PS3/dp/B001CXYMFS It works well in Elite but I did customise it a bit, its ideal if you have maet hook paws like me.

Dang that price is so much better than what I've been looking at. I might even be able to buy that
AlexB Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I assume you have "thanks" disabled on the gaming forum (seems reasonable), so here is the thought
