Cannot Burn/copy CD or DVD

Hi,

 

I have a Asus X52F laptop, running Windows 7 x64. Whenever I try to burn music to a CD, it goes through the process of burning then ejects. A message appears saying that the CD is incompatible or the quality is poor. I am trying to copy on to a New Polaroid CD-R CD. I bought a pack of 100 and try many of the CD's still the same issue. When I use the CD's on another laptop to copy\burn they work fine. CD drive works fine because I can install software off a CD, Listen to music CD's and also watch DVD's.

 

It is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ890A SATA Device.

 

Few months back I done a fresh install on the laptop, I don't think this should have caused the issue. I have checked the drivers and they seem fine. This is the first time I am trying to copy anything using the DVD drive

 

Any help will be much appreciated.

I had a similar (but not exactly the same) problem ages ago with a DVD writer and a firmware upgrade solved the problem for me. Have you checked to see if there are any f/ware upgrades for that model?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver still the same issue. I have not checked for any firmware. I have checked the Asus website for drivers but there was nothing related to DVD unless it comes under something else. Where can I check to see if there is a firmware upgrade? Do I check using the laptop make and model or look using the DVD drive make and model?

It could be a simple case that the burner is nackard. I have had drives that can read discs but not burn to them.

As regards the firmware I was lucky insofar as it was a Samsung drive inside a Samsung laptop so the firmware was available on their site. I would guess that it might be easier to swap the drive out rather than faff around searching for a firmware upgrade that might not even exist. I've had a quick google for a firmware update for your make & model drive and drew a blank.

1) What burning software are you using ?

 

Try cd burner xp or deep burn or even imgburn ??

 

2) If you try a different brand of cd does that make any difference ?

 

3) If you burn at a slower speed does that help ?

 

4) Firmware as in from the asus site or direct from the optical drive manufacturers site for your exact model of drive
