Network taking ages to load

When I log into my laptop, if it is on or off the domain, and loggin into the domain or as a standalone makes no difference, the network connections take forever to load and won't let me browse the internet etc, only sort of 30 seconds but it's a pain as it's a very quick machine and only this is holding it back. I've had it happen on several machines in the past and can't remember how I solved it - any tips?

It won't be the profile as it makes no difference who I log in as or if I log in on or off the domain. Even if I remove the laptop from the domain then it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Are the network settings correct, i.e right subnet mask etc. If its a statically-assigned IP make sure it doesnt conflict with a dhcp assigned address.

 

Might also be worth checking if its running at 100 full duplex, I know Ive had switches whose auto-negotiation has let me down in the past.

Depending on at what stage it's taking a long time to load, incorrectly set DNS settings can often be the cause.

When you say with it on or off the domain, do you mean you have literally removed it from the domain, given it a couple of reboots and it still has the problem, or do you mean when you log in locally?

 

If it is the latter you should check your GPOs in the computer settings/administrative templates/system/logon and see if the "wait for network connection...." setting is enabled, as with this setting enabled it will always take 30ish seconds to start up.... a useful setting though.

 

Just in case.... you have updated to the latest drivers for your network card? Have you tried starting up with the network card disabled, just in case it is something wrong with the image?
