I've found that several of my sites in the last few weeks have had the same problem, some of the credentials work and some dont, in fact the majority dont. All the licenses have a few years yet of updates but they do not work standalone. On laptops that cannot update I have used other credentials and they have updated, I hope the suggestion above works but I worry it may be an updating/license issue.

Does anyone use TS clients and ranger software? One of my clients has ranger lockdown security and is thinking about thin clients and a terminal server and I want to check whether this is possible or if anyone knows of any issues in it's working. Any help on this matter would be supremely appreciated, ta

You need to inject the drivers into the winPE image, you will need to get hold of WAIK and use imagex to mount the boot.wim to inject the drivers.... plenty of detailed guides online, for instance: How to: Inject drivers into a WDS | WinPE Boot image. Belgium Windows User Group Edit - or are you having problems even getting to the choices of boot through PXE?

Also I don't know if you have changed the settings from 9 points to 20 points for orientation? I find with 9 points after a certain amount of time certain areas of the smartboard are all over the shop.

First thing I would do is try a lead from a different smartboard if there is one to hand, they don't oftem go but they do go from time to time and throw up all sorts of weird behavioural disorders

This error can be caused by a number of things after WDS.... but it is always hardware related. You are correct in assuming it is a hidden partition. I assume you, like me, always delete all the partitions before installing a WDS image? If you then install an image that had a seperate parition the boot.ini file will point to an incorrect partition and stupidly the Hal.dll error is the one that shows. All you need to do is rebuild the boot table. If you have a number of machines I advise you to either rebuild the boot table and resend the image to the server, or open up the image and put the correct boot.ini file i nthe root of your system drive. To rebuild: Boot to your windows disk, press R for recovery console, type in bootcfg /rebuild, agree to replace, Identifier "Windows XP Professional" and then leave the options blank after. Beware this can often leave traces when loading windows so edit your boot.ini once in Windows and remove the old line. That should do it

I agree with you Sammy completely, nearly everyone knows how to use windows to a certain level... they press the start button, go to programs and their stuff is there, also there is a my documents on the desktop where all their stuff is, the music is in the music folder etc etc For a home user it is that simple, they want a CD to come with their printer that will make their printer work, they want to buy games that work out of the box, OS is obviously a direct competitor but still hasn't the simplicity that Pc seems to have, and a lot of people need that simplicity. Also not everything is Mac compatible whereas nearly everything is Windows. Also agree with what people said about cloud, when I firt heard about it I got cold sweats in a "bugger, I'm out of a job" kind of way, then looked into it further and am less intimidated by the concept, time will only tell where our jobs lie.

Does anyone use fast reconnect? I have been using Cisco 1200 APs for a few years and when setting up, The ultimate wireless security guide on techrepublic said not to use fast reconnect as it has problems. I don't know whether this was just with old firmware, but, is it worth testing out? Thanks Bobo

I know firewire would be the best call, but the customer may use it on various machines, many of which will not have firewire

Have just looked more about what you mentioned, did not realize WMM could extract video like that, I assume it is the same with all models of cameras?

Surely USB2.0 would do the job, no? But wouldnt the film be saved in an unsupported format?

Hey guys, was looking for some help as my own searching is long. Right, a customer is looking for a camcorder to make some simple videos with the kids. They want to use Windows movie maker and they want to buy a camcorder for around the £250 mark, they also want to be able to buy it from an actual shop (think Currys, argos etc). Very awkward really as most camcorders only record in MPEG2, so in essence I need: Camcorder for £250 from a shop that can record in mpeg4/avi or another format that is compatible with WMM. I have found that trying to get 64bit AMD and 32bit intel be it the same HAL to talk to each other with various different methods almost impossible!

When you say with it on or off the domain, do you mean you have literally removed it from the domain, given it a couple of reboots and it still has the problem, or do you mean when you log in locally? If it is the latter you should check your GPOs in the computer settings/administrative templates/system/logon and see if the "wait for network connection...." setting is enabled, as with this setting enabled it will always take 30ish seconds to start up.... a useful setting though. Just in case.... you have updated to the latest drivers for your network card? Have you tried starting up with the network card disabled, just in case it is something wrong with the image?

Thanks for the input guys, have moved back to Sophos after a fair few years with Mcaffee and seeing the customer this avo to try and sort out some performance problems that I feel sophos is adding towards, no time to properly investigate the good ole fashion way, so these pointers are appreciated.

Afternoon, was a query more than anything, how do you guys configure your sophos to have little impact on the computers but still deliver tight security? How do you change your sophos away from default?

Basically what I did was move the old server files to the new server and rebuilt the old one, they are shared out as they were on the old server. On the local machine I moved all of what I thought were the modified files, then reinitialized the cache on the offline files page (cntrl+ shift and click delete files to reinitialize the cache). I then made the files offline on the new server and then got told I missed files so the cache has been deleted, I would normally feel quite calm with recovery software but the program restoration had no luck, but the program is quite basic. Was trying to cut corners due to business, really shouldn't have. Thanks

Right, possibly the worst day anyone has ever had has been sprung upon me today. One of my sites has been without Antivirus for the past few weeks while funding was sorted, guess what happened, remember the svch0st virus from back when? A teacher brought that in on a pen drive by accident and it went to every Pc and every laptop, spending the whole day in safe mode removing these and installing sophos and sorting out shortcuts and the such as they just had a server rebuild. The virus is still about but is almost done, yay???? No! Well as its report writing time I thought it best to move the offline files from the old server local cache to the new server so they would have a backup of the reports. I fiddled with csccmd but realized it was easier to just copy the modified data and reinitialize the cache and point it to the new server, clean and simple. A few hours later a teacher comes to me asking where his work for the last few weeks is, guess what I forgot, if you put a folders data grouped by modified, then it will only be with files, not folders, yes, I have, in my rushed state, not copied the reports over that have been done, and reinitialized the offline cache! I am sweating, I need to find a program, tonight that will recover the data, is it possible? Due to the virus people havent been backing up properly, it is a complete mess, there must be some way of recovering the data surely? I tried restoration but that came up with nothing, is there a better program, I dont care if it's costly, as long as it will work. Sorry for the rant but I really really need some help. Thanks

What authentication are you using? http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/19311-wireless-policy-losing-settings.html Check out the link above, a fair few people seem to have the same problem as myself, MAC address filtering in general is done by the AP, but I can talk you through setting up a wireless GPO if you let me know what authentication you plan to use

Had similar problems but with HP printers, sometimes changing the DPI printing to better quality or printing backwards sorts out the issue, but then again that's just because the new age of cheaper HP printers and drivers are, well, sh....

I was thinking more along the lines of power? Maybe if you run out of power and the time is reset, the certificate expires as the date is before certificate creation? @Michael, you say you manually added the settings? Is this including a certificate or just encryption?

Seems like it is a fairly common problem, has noone found a workaround, or will putting in the certificate manually sort this out?
