Today is National Poetry Day,

It has caused quite a stir on Twitter.

As smart and clever as the rhymes might be,

Like all tweets they are made on the sh......

One of my favourite poems is Upon Julia's Clothes By Robert Herrick

 

Whenas in silks my Julia goes,

Then, then (methinks) how sweetly flows

That liquefaction of her clothes.

 

Next, when I cast mine eyes, and see

That brave vibration each way free,

O how that glittering taketh me!

 

 

When I first read it, I thought here was a man who deeply loved his wife, but I later found that he was never married and a vicar too boot!
