How do I burn a bootable dmg file to disc in OSX

Hi again,

 

I got a different copy of Leopard this weekend but on the disk it appears as a .dmg I so It will not install.

 

Someone mentioned TOAST - TO burn the disk so it can install

 

I'm not quite sure what to do, any ideas?

think of the .dmg as an iso file, it will need to be burn to a dual layer dvd (if full version of Leapard) so yes use toast and ¨burn image¨ option

Where did you get your copy of leopard from as if you brought it it should be on a disc. If you downloaded it then shame on you and you should not be asking here about using illegal software.

I think i gave a reasonable solution to your problem. You requested a free app to burn dmgs and i stated that Disk utility will do just that and it comes with the OS

its quite normal to ask for more information regarding a problem, so as to allow people to help.

 

As Richard only asked where the software was from and you've since ignored it, I think it is quite reasonable to assume its been illegally downloaded, correct me if I'm wrong.

 

as this is a forum for educational technicians support, this goes against what schools and colleges should be practicing.

I posted what was in my opinion a valid question. As the software comes a disc and you were asking about burning an image which is usually downloaded illegally. If this was raised on other forums I frequent the thread would have at the very least been loocked by the Admins or you could have been kicked from the site.

 

As Domino rightly states this is a forum for educational technicians support and therefore we have standards to maintain particularly as as several software companies have representatives on the site as well as people like BECTA and local education authorities.

I did I you suggested using Burning the image in "Disk Utility" on Mac OSX, -

 

I copied the origional .dmg to the desktop, then went to Disk Utility and Burnt the images to a DVD+R DL

 

this works fine...

It's not even a grey area - I genuinely can't think of a way that anyone would obtain a dmg of an operating system and not be breaking the law - and know that they are breaking the law.

To be fair, you can backup your install discs into a DMG and then if he had an issue with his disk, ie a slight scratch then he would need to burn his DMG to continue with his installation. I have found that superdrives can be very picky about the media in its hole.

 

I have had discs spat back out at me because they have a minute scratch that would play fine in a windows machine.
