Hi All

I have been asked by the Art and Media subject areas if they can have a shared area that their students can save to, rather than their home folders or USB drives etc. As it happens we do have quite a bit of space on an old SAN so I'm happy to facilitate them.

I'm not sure how best to set it up and make it available, but I'm sure someone on here has already done it, so any advice will be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Yup :) Connect your SAN to AD, create a security group with only the Macs added to that particular group. Create a shared area on your SAN and set the settings to Full Control but only to Administrators and that Mac Group... Done! :) I did the same kind of thing once but on a Mac Shared area rather than using Samba Windows Shared folders so it may differ slightly but can't imagine it being too much different.

When I used my older SAN for media, I put a Server 2012R2 on there and you can create an NFS Share to mount on the Macs. That way you get the Windows backend with an easy to manage share in the format the Macs love.
