No. There's an 840 in this and I've just copied a 3GB file that hasn't been changed for around 6 months, it did start at 80MBps and dropped to 27 but 30 seconds to copy the whole thing - certainly not as drastic as mentioned. As I have a pile of 10 of the drives sat next to me, I shall be waiting for a firwmare before they're fitted, just in case.

Can't imagine it'll affect us too much as all data is network, mandatory profiles etc. OS files and program data files stored on the drive will be used near constantly so never would have the chance to become "old data".

Haven't noticed any issue to date in my personal machine at home with this, its flying along with the SSD (though I have two other drives in there with the bulk of my data on them)

With SSD's when you apply a firmware update, does that erase all the data on said drive or what exactly

Also what are the steps to update the firmware ie does it have to be connected directly to the pc ie via SATA Cable etc or can I use an external hard drive kit via USB --> SATA cable and power etc or what exactly ?

Samsung's firmware updates are non-destructive, although it's always a good idea to have a backup.

Also what are the steps to update the firmware

Use Samsung's Magician program on Windows or the bootable firmware updater ISO on a Mac. The SSD should be connected directly via SATA.

Hope they have this fixed by the time I come to order as contemplating getting a couple 850 pro and a couple EVO's, wondering if there is going to be much difference between the 840 evo and the 850 evo ?
