(WSUS) Enable Client-side Targeting.. wut?

One of those mornings where I still haven't woken up yet (/zombiemode)

 

I'm setting up WSUS and I came across this particular GP: Enable Client-side Targeting, but I can't for the life of me comprehend what it does/means.. Any chance someone can be a dear and explain it in basic terms?

Basically this enables you to set up the groups in WSUS to keep things organised, i.e. keep servers, desktops, etc seperate.

 

You create a group in WSUS, call it Desktops and in the Client side targeting you put this group.

 

You can assign computers to different groups, and automatically distribute updates to them, keeps things a bit tidier

You also need to change a setting within the WSUS options for this to work:

 

Options > Computers > select the group policy option

If you use client side targeting though you cannot manually move clients from one group to another - it's either all automatic or nothing. That being said, I'm using it here and it's a beautiful thing.
