Users home drives won't map.

Hi.

Bit of a newbie looking after a handful of Macs we have here.

 

Users are logging in with AD credentials, but standard users (pupils and teachers) are not getting an access denied message when trying to connect to their home drives. Myself and my team it maps no problems. The connect to server option is not available to standard users either.

 

Can anybody point me in the right direction as to what we've got setup wrong?

When you say the connect to server option isn't available, do you mean it's physical missing or just access denied?

 

Workgroup Manager controls what commands are available to users:

 

 

Guessing you might have it set to manage them and remove those options?

Hey Pete,

 

How are you pushing out the settings? I'm going to assume you're using workgroup manager on a dedicated Mac Server and that you have ticked access to Network Home (Can't remember where exactly this is located but a Google will show you).

 

If that is the case how are you trying to get to their home areas are you mapping the shared area to the desktop or are you doing this:

 

If neither way works I would have to suggest there maybe a problem with the Security on the Home Drives and thats why they're getting access denied.

Are their home directories mapped using a dfs path? I recently ran into where certain versions of osx cant read a dfs home directory path and was forcrd to upgrade the os

No DFS in use, just getting a '?' mark in the lower launch pad where it should be mapping to the users home directory. Not sure whats going on at the moment.

We have the same issue here, Students and staff get a ? on the dock and a message saying access denied when clicking on it. We haven't got round to having a look at the issue yet as only a handful of our students and staff use them, but I read somewhere that it may have something to do with special ntfs permissions like traverse folder. We have our file server setup with traverse folder permissions. I may be wrong but our issue seems to point towards the ntfs permissions.
