Win 7 Laptops issue with Projectors

Hi All,

 

I have an on-going problem I'd like to share with you. Although initially it may seem a simple one, I'm struggling to solve it.

 

We have a number of Windows 7 laptops with the same model (Fujitsu A530) which can no longer use the Duplicate screen function to project both on the laptop screen itself and on the projector. You can either have one or the other - for example for it to be on the projector, the laptop screen goes black and visa versa. I use FN and F10 to switch between the different modes.

 

I've tried the usual things, trying a different projector, changing VGA cables, updating drivers but to no avail. What is strange is that it is happening all of a sudden to a number of machines on a number of projectors, which is what made me thing perhaps it was the driver.

 

If I try the newer A532 model, it works without a problem.

 

Has anyone else had this or would you recommend something I haven’t already done?

Perhaps the resolution is not compatible with the projector. Try changing the laptop to the typical 1024 x 768

 

Also check the bios to see if there is a display setting

We had a similar issue. Have you tried using the dual display option in the Intel display control panel (shortcut icon near your windows clock) rather than the generic windows 7 display properties?

Can you use Windows + P to select duplicate mode?

It probably won't make much difference but also try the windows key + P combination to duplicate the screens.

I set this on our teacher stations via a GPO to run a script on login that simply runs 'displayswitch.exe /clone', you do have to give the full path to the display switch executable for it to work. I copy this to a location in "c:\program files" so that users have permissions to run it as my applocker/security restrictions allow .exes to run from there.

The displayswitch is the same thing as the manual windows key + p. Try it manually on the laptop to verify it will actually do it and then check the gp script works. You could test a laptop that doesn't have the issue just to make sure the script executes the displayswitch command.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I tried them all, and in the end, doing it from the Intel Control Panel instead of Win 7 display properties did the trick.
