Chromebook Management Licences

Just about to purchase some Chromebook management licences. Been quoted for some 3 yr licences at about £28. Is that any good?

 

Alternatively can we buy perpetual licences? Supplier says no...

If we are talking about the same thing our perpetual licences for each Chromebook cost us £ 19.

 

These licences stay with the device so if it is lost/broken/stolen then you have lost that licence.

Not any more. As of 09/09/2014, you can now reassign the licenses to other Chrome OS devices as long as they are the same model.

Device licenses can now be revoked via deprovisioning and reassigned to a different device of the same model.

Each perpetual license you purchase for our web-based management software lasts for the lifetime of the device it’s enrolled on.* If you encounter a hardware issue and need to replace a Chrome device, the license can be transferred to a replacement of the same model. Using the deprovisioning feature within the Admin console on a damaged device will free up its license, allowing you to enroll the same model replacement. Licenses are not transferrable from one device model to another, and license transfers will be audited.

 

If you don’t have any available licenses when attempting to enroll, you will encounter an error. If you see the error and do not have any replaced devices to deprovision, you'll need to purchase additional licenses by contacting sales. If you are an educational institution, please contact our Education sales team. For any other issues related to enrollment, please contact support.

 

You can view the number of licenses currently in use in your Google Admin console. Go to Device management > Devices (to the right of Chrome management). Note that buffer licenses will not be displayed.

Ok, thanks all for your replies. We purchased the Chromebooks from a reseller - can we still get our management licences from Google? Trying to get in contact with their sales department has proved somewhat difficult.

We did receive a reply from one rep, but the phone numbers don't work and replying to his email returns a mailbox does not exist error - odd!

You need to use a reseller AFAIK but I don't think it matters which one. We've used c-learning in the past and found them very good. £19 each in batches of 5.
