[mdt] deployment of win7 x64 run extremly slow

I usually deploy win7 x86 (deployed in 20 min on a real computer), but now I have begun to deploy x64.

The vmware test went really good, the whole image, with updates and office pro+ in 25 min (6.5gb). which is pretty good i think.

 

But when I tried on a real computer (Lenovo m78) it took two hours!!??

It looks like injecting driver etc runs pretty smooth, until intalling of the actual OS, then it slows down to a crawl.

 

There is no error in the log file, I have the feeling that is some kind of driver issue.

But doesn't MDT use it's own standard drive when deploying the OS.?

 

I don't really know where to start.

I have tried two different computer, it still took over 2 hours.

Been looking in the bios, I have tried to set the disk to sata or IDE but no change.

We use Win7 x64 throughout here; and the only time MDT takes an age for us, is when the NIC is connected at 100Mbps compared with 1000Mpbs...

 

So maybe a connection/switch/NIC Driver issue? or possibly related to multicast?

I already tried a different computer.

 

But forgot to say that my mdt is on vmware.

 

Where can i see which driver mdt choose?

Maybe I should go through the bios again and see if there is anything I can change in the network.

I have been testing throught out the day.

It turns out that every Image I deploy is slow, also those that normally took 20-25min.

So it must be a driver issue.

I'm booting from a USB and have been doing that all the time, so something must have change.

My USB boot stick look like this.

 

In folder "sources"

LitetouchPE_x86.wim (x64 when needed) the file I rename to boot.wim

Boot---folder

 

 

I have regenerate the boot image several times, and try to change the drivers in the TS.

But still no change.

 

I have the feeling that its a drive issue on my USB boot stick.?

I'm still have issues with very slow deployment.

I realize that its everything that its slow now.

Installing of apps will take several minuts even with small apps, sometimes up to 30min.

 

I don't know where to start searching for "errors"

 

I think it has something to do with the nic driver of some kind.

 

But i don't where to start.?

 

Should I post a very long log file here.?

I'm sure we had this problem with a few older Lenovo computers we had at the college I used to work at. I believe you are correct about it being a driver issue, have you tried installing a separate Realtek based network card and try it again. It may also be worthwhile trying a windows 8 boot.wim file rather than the windows 7 version.

Try compressing the log file with 7-zip (choose "Ultra" compression). It should be small enough to attach.

 

Alternatively, upload it to PasteBin, Dropbox or Mega.

actually I think it's edugeek attachment manager that is not working. When wanna attach a file nothing really happens.

Also the attach manager looks weird in IE11 and also in maxthon.

 

The file log Is only 22kb and is a txt format.

so I don't really know why I can't upload it.

But which driver should I try.?

 

It's a Lenovo L540 with a Intel® 10/1000 Gigabyte Ethernet,,,, which realtek driver is compatible with that.?

Do you have Multicast enabled? I've found things can run very slowly if multicast is enabled, but the switches aren't allowing it.

I'm not using WDS, but a USB stick.

My network administrator has still not got pxeboot to work yet.

I could be wrong, but I think multicast only kicks in once the OS copy starts, regardless of booting from USB or PXE

I don't touch the WDS, I just put the boot.wim etc on the USB stick, I have not change the Boot image on the WDS for a while.

As far as I understand the boot image on the WDS is not used when I use the USB stick to boot from.

 

But I have just change the Multicast from "Use addresse from the ......." to "Obtain IP adresse from DHCP",,, will see if it change anything.

I have done some Log browsing and looked at the time differents between a virtuel deployment and a psysical deployment.

Everything is the same, OS, TS, apps, everything

 

 

OS

virtuel deployment = 10m 6s

Psysical deployment = 54m 7s

 

 

Microsoft Office 2007

Virtuel deployment = 2m 35s

Psysical deployment = 8m 55s

 

F-secure

Virtuel deployment = 36s

Psysical deployment = 1m 28s

 

Cd-ord (a program for dyslexci)

Virtuel deployement = 2m 24s

Psysical deployment = 1h 25s

All in all ( I have a lot of small programs I didn't put on this list)

virtuel Deployment = 35m 19s

Psysical Deplyoment = 2h 50m

Before starting to install the actuall OS the virtuel deployment uses 1m 21s to load drivers, but the psysical deployment uses 5m 15s doing the same task.

Hi again Denymos,

 

Sorry I didn't mean to use Realtek drivers on your Lenovo network card, I meant to find an actual physical Realtek card and install that and try it.

 

Another thing where about are you getting the boot.wim file from? is it from the windows 7 DVD? if so try using the one from the windows 8 DVD if you have it as I'm sure it has more and updated drivers which may work straight away on your Lenovo network card.
