Popular Post Fleetwood Posted September 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted September 16, 2014 Came into work this morning to find this chap chilling on my desk. I'd left the windows open in my office overnight.. won't be doing that again! I took that photo initially to ask what it was as I honestly had no idea, it was when I moved in for another picture I must have woken him up because that sod spread its wings like "Deal With It." and had a right party whizzing around my office! Thankfully he went out the window and back to our Bat Roost (main building is a Victorian Manor, bat roost in the basement which has an open-hatch entrance from the courtyard - they come out and fly around most nights, and we obviously can't move them because they're protected. S'all good!) - Not ashamed to say I did squeal like a girl when it revealed its true identity.. gave me the bloody shivers 7
localzuk Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Aww. Love bats! They're such gorgeous little creatures.
Fleetwood Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 Don't get me wrong, it was so cute. It was just chilling like that for a good 20-odd minutes of me being in there and it was just staring at me with its Pug-like face. Could even see its teeny-tiny teeth haha. Just wasn't expecting it to spread its wings the size of Europe and take off bloody funny though, I miss it already

Garacesh Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) I'd be a little un-nerved at a bat whizzing around my office, but I think it would be kinda cool. Also it would chase off the staff that came in with issues. "$Gara, my computer is pl- AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!" Should've befriended it and trained it. Stick a camera on its head and use the bat to remotely fix problems. If you flip a photo of bats hanging upside down, they look like they're having a wicked dance-off. Cannot ever unsee Edited September 16, 2014 by Garacesh 1
featured_spectre Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Glad I could provide amusement for you! haha
Fleetwood Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 I'd be a little un-nerved at a bat whizzing around my office I'd say un-nerved is a mild description of my reaction when it started flying around.. I lost my dignity literally squealed and ran out, shut the door and just peered through the glass panel LOL. #man @nephilim - where do you find these images hahah, gave me a good chuckle
edutech4schools Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 A friend has an ultrasonic bat listening device, you wouldn't believe the amount of noise they make.

featured_spectre Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Mr Wayne: They use sonar?...a bit like... Lucius Fox: A submarine Mr Wayne!
localzuk Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I always remember when a load of bats were brought into my primary school when I was a kid. They transported them in socks.
Ephelyon Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Should've befriended it and trained it. Stick a camera on its head and use the bat to remotely fix problems. Lends a new meaning to the term "Clue Bat"... 1
elsiegee40 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 When I was a teenager, one of the national bat experts stayed at our house. He had some bats with him that he was nursing and brought them in. There were 2 pipstrelles, really tiny, and Daubenton's about the size of a hamster. The Daubenton's loved to be stroked and purred while you did it! One of the pipstrelle bats took a liking to the York stone fireplace and hung itself on it

Then again, mine might then explode.
CHR1S Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) West Midlands Safari Park has a bat cave, its amazing. Low light and you can see the bats flying round you, sometimes they even clip your body! Inside the Bat Cave by CoasterMadMatt, on Flickr Edited September 16, 2014 by CHR1S
featured_spectre Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 What people dont realise is that bats are incredible accurate in flight. They'll rarely hit you, you may get a small clip, but they'll never deliberately hit you unless you're covered in bugs they like.
Garacesh Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 At the zoo one time I stood still in the bat cave for ages until finally one landed on me. That made me happy. As soon as I turned my head to look at it, though, it flew off. That made me sad
Bompalompalomp Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Bats are my favourite animal, I'd have been letting off a whole other kind of girly squeal! I'd ruddy love to work by there.
