tj2419 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Hi I made a website for someone i used to work with. They have paid me for it but now have asked if i could make them a receipt. If i did this would this mean i would need to declare the money on my taxes? And whats the process for that? It was only £20. Thanks
Dos_Box Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) If it's a one-off and not something you do as a 'business' on the side I wouldn't worry about it. It it was several hundred pounds then yes, you should declare it as extra income. Give them a receipt, it is very, very, very, very, very etc. unlikely that HMRC would check that invoice against you and then come demanding £2. You would also not be VAT eligable unless you are actually earning over the 81k threshold for VAT laibility! Edited September 15, 2014 by Dos_Box
tj2419 Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 Earning over £81k! That would be a dream Cheers
spacebar Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I am trying. Got paid about £480 for some extra work I did, but every time I try and tell them they say I have filled in the wrong form!!!!!!!! I would not bother for anything under £100, although most people don't bother at all.
visioN Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 They want a receipt for a website you made for £20?! crazy crazy he is asking and crazy you created them a website for so cheap!
The_IT_Guy Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The website cost more last year this was just a renewal fee for hosting it for another 12 months
plexer Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Still cheap hosting can I buy some please? Ben
strawberry Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The website cost more last year this was just a renewal fee for hosting it for another 12 months By the time you've deducted leccy and other fees theres probably no profit. Wouldn't worry about tax.
lew_bob Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 For that little I wouldnt worry at all. Besides you dont want to join us every Jan doing our tax returns, its not a fun process, esp if its for a second 'income' and your messing with NI too
