SteveT Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Sims.net: May be obvious (but not to me!!!) .... but since Tidy Backups "disappeared" from System Manager ...... how do you remove old backups? Am loath to delete manually as warned in the past that simply manually deleting them can cause SQL to throw a wobbly?
jslate1980 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) I remove them from Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SIMS2008\MSSQL\Backup. That's where the sims backups are stored for my site. Forgot to mention usually leave the 5-10 most recent .bak files. Edited September 12, 2014 by jslate1980
matt40k Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Didn't that disappear years and years and years ago? Wrote something which can be ran as a scheduled task: TidyBackups - Home Info on the switches: TidyBackups - Documentation, key one is the /preserve, so it you set /preserve=1 you'll always have at least 1 backup of each database even if it is ancient!

We use @matt40k 's utility with no problems at all. Very easy to configure and simple to use
