pooley Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Does anyone bother hosting or running their own website these days or has everyone farmed out the work? Mainly thinking of primary schools with this. Its a pain in the @rs to get updated content off teachers so the school website is always out of date. I'm thinking of just having a static, almost 1 or 2 page website and just link any "nice content (photo's etc) to our facebook page. Any nice "janet & john" child friendly theme's about?
unixman_again Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 We're a college and we run our own. Currently it's based on a rubbish, custom written CMS but we are moving to Joomla. Actually, all of the intranet has been on Joomla for a year or so. Can't get SMT to make a decision on the new designs to go live. (We've been waiting for 9 months and doing double updates is very tedious.) Joomla has loads of themes available and is very easy to use.
3s-gtech Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Even farmed out, you'll need the content. We run ours in house, on Joomla. As we built it from scratch we take pride in keeping it up to date, and the staff tend to pass on anything that needs to go up. It's also used as a governors portal and that is very often updated.
witch Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Farmed out. I used to do the content but got sick to death of chasing teachers for stuff so when we got a new head who immediately got a new website, I bowed out and the admin team do it now - thank goodness
elsiegee40 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Internal, but the one day a week marketing manager deals with everything exceot the esafety stuff (mine ) I only do adhoc stuff that needs to be done when the marketing manager is unavailabke.
pooley Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 Thanks ladies & gents. I think i'll just find a nice new Joomla template and revamp what we have.
Joanne Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I've just been given a long list of required documents for the website, 2/3rds or which require me to get documents off other peoples... wah. Thing is we are getting a new website in the coming months, but I suppose I will still need the content. YAY! Some of it is really weird though.... like all letters to parents should be on the website... seriously? That's a lot of letters!! Fair enough newsletters...
