Stuck with my exchange 2003 to 2010 migration :(

I started to migrate exchange 2003 to 2010 many many months ago and only got so far through the process before getting sidetrack with other issue.

 

I have moved all the mailboxes over, we don't use public folders, I have OWA working and everything else seems fine, BUT, when I turn off the old mail server (2003) no mail comes through, even though my Barracuda Spam filter appliance has the 2010 mail server set as it's destination. When I switch on the 2003 server mail flows again, so I am obviously missing a step.

 

Anyone point me in the right direction?

Which server do your MX records point to? How do you have your Send and Receive connectors set up - if you have specified your old server upstream then you won't receive mail or be able to send it outwards.

Just so I can understand but why would you not go with Office 365?

 

The migration should be a lot easier.

To be fair I have tabled that idea, I was thinking the migration may be a lot easier if I get out of co-existant mode limbo that I am in at the moment and move fully to 2010.

MX record points to an external address which in turn points to our spam appliance which should then deliver the mail to our 2010 server. I still have routing group connectors to both servers and the 2003 server shows to administrative groups.
