One of my schools is looking for wireless solution, but hasn't a lot of money they would also need at least one PoE switch

Looks like a good deal. Not used this myself but am using Netgear SFP 12 Port Switches at our core and they are solid and have never missed a beat in almost 3 years of 24x7 service

Not used that but have a look at ubiquiti unif wifi point. I have 9 in school and they run great. About £150 for a pack of 3 and you can run the software on any machine. When you need more just buy another one and add it.

I've heard reasonable things about Netgear wireless, however I feel you will be best looking at other solutions. For high end then Ruckus and Meru are awesome systems, if you have a lesser budget then the Ubiquiti UniFi kits are absolutely awesome. At that level I'd say go for the Pro UniFi sets rather than the basic ones (the £150 3 packs) and you'll have a system that's actually better than those Netgears and many other systems and much, much, much cheaper.

Circa £400 for a pack of 3 - so that's £1200 for 9, run the software on anything you have lying around and you will have something that makes everything else look very poor value for money.

 

The UniFi AP-AC ones may be worth a look for futureproofing however can't comment on those with no experience or idea of their capabilities as yet.

i wouldn't touch netgear wifi with a bargepole. not used the new stuff but their old stuff was pants. poe switches that seemed to stop/slow dhcp traffic to the point where a pc wired a wifi wouldnt get an ip address same kit in a hp worked fine. the wifi seemed slow when it did work and often worked better if once you set it up you turned off the central controller. these dsys we install unifi or ruckus and its soooo much better

This makes for an interesting read (admittedly talking about none controller managed deployments) but could well be pertinent, I think the final post on page 3 is quite telling...

We used to use Netgear equipment religiously up until a year ago. Since then all of the Netgear equipment we have got has been next to useless. Wifi in one school can't hold a solid N signal and setting up the controller was sheer hell. We've still got three Netgear switches that, despite a two year support ticket with Netgear and all three going back for repair, still will not communicate with each other over a fibre channel. I'd give a major thumbs up to Unify wireless as that has been a godsend to us.

Not everyone is going to agree, and I accept their experiences might be different to mine, but in my experience you get better performance and reliability from netgear equipment by writing a string of binary on the side of it with a marker pen and then throwing it at the person you're trying to communicate with than you do from plugging it in and trying to network it...

We had a netgear pro access point, could never get it to talk to broadcom wifi cards in the two Toshibas we had, never got a resolution from netgear, never again.
