Now, i know i'm sailing in sand at the moment.... but i'm contemplating buying a new console.

Xbox one and PS4 are of course the latest consoles out, but out of curiosity, and curiosity alone, how long do you all think it will be before the 'next gen' console is released?

I'd like to think that if i bought a x1 or Ps4, it would last about 2 - 3 years? Another think this is possible?

Given how long it was before developers were finally getting the most out of the Xbox 360 I'd wager that the One would take a few more years yet before publishers were releasing games utiising it's full potential.

Last gen was the 'XP Generation' as Windows XP refused to die, Xbox 360 refused to die and the PS3 hung around too. Wii appeared to be in a market of it's own anyway!

After all the Win XP hassle recently (and the fact it still has a high market share!) I wonder if people will retain the refusal to upgrade mentality. It depends how the industry reacts and changes but given how much the new consoles cost consumers will want a very long shelf life from them!

Hopefully before Christmas so I have something to buy boyfriend for Christmas. No idea how I'm going to top a PS4.

Shots fired. (He's not wrong, though)

4 years, I expect. I think it'll be set for 3, but pushed back.

WOT!?!?! Omg... I got a PS4 during the holidays and I LOVE it. I got PSN subscription and you get 3 games a month too... which is cool. Also got The Last of Us which is a scary zombie thing. Love it.... <3 <3 <3

He only plays FIFA.

Step 1) Buy him some decent games. Get him invested.

Step 2) Build him a PC.

I did toy with the idea of a PS4, but truth be told I didn't use my XBox 360 nearly as much as I thought I would, so I figured it might be a waste of money.

I got him quite a few games, FIFA is just the only one he's consistently interested in.

Haha honestly I would much rather he spent his free time doing fun stuff with me than sat in front of his PC/PS4!

haha, football manager, deary me, one of the worst games i imagine to watch. pretty much not played it since i've been with my better half. needs a lot of time, and i know it must be really boring to watch (i'm not meaning to put your other half in a bad light here!)

Hehe, luckily I've never been made to watch. He only plays when I'm not about or if I'm busy doing something else. Doesn't look like it'd make a good spectator sport though!

Boring to play, let alone to watch. I mean, I get the appeal of sports games if you're a sports fan (of which I am not, could you tell?) but you don't even get to play or even watch sport with Football Manager games.

I used to love football manager. Just a bit of fun seeing if you can do any better, which you always could. I always got Burnley to the top of the Premiership, and occasionally Scunthorpe if I fancied a change.

i may, or may not, of used to add a manager to a team who owned a plyer i liked, and accepted a measly bid for him, and proceed to fine him two weeks wages, with no reason, so that he'd leave.

This topic went from, Xbox one / Ps4, to 'oooo buuurrnnn', to - how to distract a guy from playing game (which is sin!).

Is it just me, or is this RAPIDLY heading down the wrong water pipe?
