been having a problem with my pc or router at home for a while but it's starting to really annoy me now and i want to get it fixed.

1 3com wireless dsl router

1 winxp sp2 pc

every 6-24 hours my pc stops making new connections to the net. nothing works except existing bittorrent connections. no new ones are created. at the same time my ex's laptop would still be working, although she never closes firefox.

resetting the router fixes the problem.

tried to no avail. changing dns on pc to isp ones. putting pc in dmz - connection lasted longer. updating the firmware.

when i checked my pc this morning and the connection had died i noticed the software firewall was blocking loads of packets on sequential ports from the router. didnt have time to establish what these were.

any ideas on what to check/stuff to try?

Have you checked to see if there is an updated version of the firmware for the router? This sometimes seems to sort these niggling issues out.

what client card and what wifi management software are you using? people always forget about hte client and a lot of problems reside at the client end (/me points at dos_boxes and my 2200BG cards from intel...)

I wonder how long your ISP allocates it's IP's for? Perhaps it is having a conflict if your ISP releases adresses after a short period. That would also stop people hogging bandwidth from their point of view. Renewing your IP by rebooting would solve the problem. Have you checked your router IP on he net side for this?
