BT Vision

I'm still thinking about ditching Sky, anyone got BT Vision, is it any good?

I told Sky I was ditching them for BT vision. I'm now paying £13.20 for 12 months rather than £34 for my Sky package. I'd stay put and haggle.

Apparently the BT vision box was dog slow, but they have released a new one this year which is faster. Only reason I don't go with them is that the box needs an aerial, don't understand why they don't make a freesat version as well.

 

Also if you want the extra channels like Sky movies, UK gold etc you need to be on BT fibre as they are sent iptv.

That's a reason why I might look at a Freesat box, we're on a sub transmitter so only get a subset of digital channels anyway.

Using the BT Youview box at the mo. No extra channels, just freeview and FW HD plus the lovely on demand service. I love the ability to scroll back through seven days programming and watch whatever you might have missed.

 

Definitely a good deal tho. And having BT internet gives you free BT sport which is more than enough for me

I'm paying about £40 a month for my package.

 

That includes Line rental, calls, unlimited broadband (bt infinity 80down/20up), TV Essential package, and the YouView Box.

 

We only pay for basic freeview and FV HD Channels plus all of the main channels on demand players, but it's only a few quid extra per month for access to the BT movies/boxset library and it's only a small amount per pack for the extra music/docu bundles etc

 

All in all it's a good deal.

 

We like the TV Box which was a bonus as my main reason for staying with BT over Virgin was the free BT Sport, and consistent download speeds (I can put 30-40GB through in downloads per weeks easily)

I have a youview box and the ondemand includes Iplayer, ITV Player, 4OD, Five OnDemand, UK TV catchup (includes yesterday, really and Dave). You can pay for more and BT vision section has movies etc which are pay to view.

 

The youview box has had periods when it has been slow but these seem to have been fixed by firmware updates.

the older big youview box is slow unreliable and disappointing. if you watch an internet channel say discovery hd and bring up the guide the sound and picture break up. the sound drops out on internet channels now and again for fractions of a second semi regularly. if its in anything but max power saving mode it needs rebooting every 4 days or it stops recording internet channels just says it cant find them even if you can watch them and in max power saving you can make a sandwich before its booted. its slow and unresponsive hitting play on a recording takes so long you wonder if you pushed it. the scroll back is great on bbc,itv,ch4,ch5 but dosent work on most other channels. they once fired out an update a few months back that removed all internet channels accidentally

 

its a nice idea very badly executed my old freeview pvr has MUCH MUCH better functionality and tv has smart features. the new one is supposed to be better but apparently if i buy one it wont get my internet channels and i dont want to lose discovery channel

it needs an aerial because most of the channels are freeview with some internet channels added on.

oh and series link is unreliable for instance the simpsons on ch4 is fine but on 4hd most weeks wont work as a link. it forgets btcc or wtcc are links so unlike my older boxes you just cant rely on it catching things that are on at odd times

Hmmm well I'll think about that, I might look into Freesat as well.

I had bt vision and have just moved house and the new house doesn't have an aerial but has a satellite dish so i bought the Humax hdr-1000s for £130 (managers special off the Humax website). So far, i find it loads better than vision, the only extra channel i miss is Quest but the catch up tv work better than the Vision box did and the ability to remotely start channels recording from your phone makes it well worth the one of payment imo.

Twin tuner as well so you can record 2 programs at once. Cant fault it so far, far better than the clunky old vision box. Cant justify paying for Sky or Virgin as my partner and i only really watched MTV outside of the freeview channels which we can get for £5 month through a now tv box if we really wanted to.

Well I'm really impressed with he Humax box so far, really slick interface and snappy to use.

The only minor issue that I'm going to contact Humax about is when I go to Showcase to use on demand features it tells me I need to connect to the internet but it is. I can look in the TV guide at previous days and select a program and iPlayer fires up and plays it. I can also access it from the Freesat app on my tablet. A minor niggle but one I can live with for now

I moved from Sky to BT last year with the Youview Humax box and regretted it pretty quickly. The box is slow, the guide is slow and not as user friendly as Sky and you need your box plugged directly into your BT router for the on demand Internet channels to work properly. You can plug it into a network extender but I don't get great results and the Internet channels simply won't work. The backwards guide for catchup sounds great if it worked but I just end up recording it now instead.

 

I will be moving back to sky when all the contracts expire. I think they have it sewn up with their setup in all honesty. The guide is better, the box is faster and the on demand stuff is streamed through the dish.

in think it depends which youview box the older humax like I have is a underpowered piece o pap the newer ones are meant to be much better but apparently unless I get it from bt it wont get my extra channels

Human were making user friendly hdd recorders before sky invented it!

 

However the (non human) youview box my mother has is painfully slow. Her standard human hdd recorder was much better.

 

Was never a fan of the sky EPG but over the last year they've really got their act together. Feel like I've been assimilated now. Only got sky for F1. Now watch quite a few different channels.

I'm with BT Vision for a couple of years and would still recommend it over sky if you are a normal tv watcher.

If you are a massive tv watcher then bt vision does lack box sets and movies within its package.

 

BT Box Office is pretty good and cheaper than Sky Store rental. But Sky Store own is better as you get a physical dvd as well.

 

We are running one of the older VBOX's and the recent software update has improve the GUI no end.
