Windows V Mac

So im considering the possibility of building my own PC or purchasing a Mac and im looking for some recommendations.

 

I already have a Macbook Pro, and an Ipad, but i wanna be able to do a lot of video editing and some gaming, and maybe connect upto my TV in the living room.

 

So I guess my question is super spec high speed windows machine or spend £2000 on a Mac? and I suppose is it possible to actually get good results from a windows machine using premiere for eg, I hear so many good and bad things.

 

What are your suggestions and any recommendations.

Seriously though, what are you thoughts on Hackintosh?...

 

If you're spending £2000, personally I'd go for build your own super high spec PC. Add in a bit of Virtual Box and if OS X was really required, I'd look into finding a suitable solution for that later.

 

(PS: This is from a Mac fanboy! - buy the mac, they are better - yadda, yadda, yadda)

If you want to play AAA and mainstream games, the PC is the obvious choice. Of course, you can dual boot the Mac, but getting a powerful Mac compatible graphics card will cost an absolute fortune so gaming will be hobbled still.

 

I'd say, build. For £1000 you can make something pretty special - GTX 780 or R9 290 powered, top-end Core i5 (maybe an i7 but pushing it), 16GB+ RAM, SSD + hybrid HDD, nice case and PSU, Windows 8.1.

If your budget is £2,000, why not both?

 

Get a really nice gaming PC for ~£1,000 plus a Mac mini for £469.20 or £609.60 (once the new model has been released).

 

With the money left over you could buy an SSD to replace the Mac's slow boot drive (£80.70) and add a 2TB HDD (£89.99) in the second drive bay for capturing video.

Budget wasn't actually £2000, just when I spec'd up a mac thats what it could have cost, know a windows machine would be cheaper.

Depends exactly how you spec up the Windows machine. You would get (roughly) the same results as the Mac, so long as the spec is equivalent. But, you'd be able to play Far Cry 4 as well

That not really a Mac vs PC hardware question though is it? It's a Software question Premier PC vs Premier Mac vs iMovie, etc. It's probably down to features, UI, and personal taste more than anything else.

Yes absolutely. I moved from an iMac to a Windows self build a while back, and I'd say Premiere performs just as well if not better on the PC.

 

Cuda offload works better, easier to spec separate disks for scratch/render, etc

Having had a ludicrous amount of fun playing Far Cry 3, it's probably right up there (along with GTA V PC).

If you are super PC gaming fan then there is no graphics card on any mac which will cut it for me (especially at the 27" res). Yes the onboard will cope for now but I doubt it will cut it at the top level however if you just want the odd game and are not too bothered with seeing blades of grass 40 miles into the distance, get an iMac.

 

To be honest I am a super Windows wh*re but if they released what I would class as a gaming grade iMac I would get one.
