eyetea Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Hi all, I've recently moved into my own house - woo! I'm looking at having a small NAS to store all my photos and documents on, but also to use alongside RaspBMC to play music via a Pi/Amp/Speakers in the front room. Doesn't have to be anything all singing all dancing, but must be reasonably cheap! My current thinking is getting this Any other recommendations? Cheers, J

LincolnE Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I bought the same one as OP about two weeks ago, but I got it from DABs, instead. Zyxel NSA325 2-Bay Power Plus NAS Diskless (1.6GHz CPU) V2 (NSA325V2-EU0101F) - dabs.com

SHimmer45 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 had a small ubuntu box running a few 300GB disks on a Via C7 which did the job well for file storage, retired it in favour or a buffalo link station i got a good deal on. its ok but i would say brilliant very much a "consumer" rather than poweuser or SOHO product
PotNoodleTech Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 After great experience with Synology's bigger nas' I'd be looking at a 2 bay one for the home. Can also add some cool/handy apps directly on to the NAS. Interested to hear more about your Pi Hifi setup?
eyetea Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 It's taken a slight back burner thanks to decorating costs! However the set up will be: Amp situated on TV unit, the Mrs' Dad is putting in new sockets and such for us, so whilst he's at it I've asked him to run conduit up inside the wall behind the TV unit into the loft which will allow me to run speaker cable up to 2 wall mounted speakers with only short end of the wire poking through the wall! (may be able to get mounts that allow the wire to go up them - need to look in to this!) Pi will also be situated on TV unit running RaspBMC which will be able to take stream music from the NAS! One of the amps inputs will be from the Pi, and then control RaspBMC via my phone! Worked okay when I tested it at home just running it through my hifi through the aux input! A few niggles here and there but its £50 compared to several hundred quid on top of amp + speakers!
