GPO mapping all the printers installed on our print server

Hi all!

 

I have a problem that a GPO I have seems to be connecting all of the printers that we have installed on our windows server 2012 server rather than just the one selected to map (User configuration>Preferences>Control Panel Settings>Printers) I have point and print set to the print server but if I disable this, it seems to make no difference. Has anyone else come across this? Any ideas anyone?

Hello - Yes I had this issue a few times in my last job. Basically I created a printer policy, and over time (maybe a few days) different printers on the network that were installed to our server would appear on PCs who didn't have them mapped. What I did was, created seperate printer policies for each printer / photocopier. I also then included the remove option, and removed each printer that I didn't want to appear in that same GPO. So for example, within my printer GP, I had Printer 1 set to update, printer2 - delete, printer 3 delete. On my second GP, I had printer 2 update, printer 1 delete, printer 3 delete. This seemed to fix my issue. This wasnt a huge amount of work for us, as we only have 4/5 photocopiers

 

If all else fails, check permissions and make sure you are applying the printer GP to the correct OU

Thanks for the response cooka! In my scenario, I am at a primary and secondary school. So obviously they don't want each others printers mapped. So are you saying for example, If it is the primary school policy, set those printers to update and then all of the secondary ones to delete?

 

Its only happened since I built a 2012 R2 print server. Do you think this is just a bug? Surely it shouldnt work like this?
