Customising the Start Screen vanishing icon problem

I'm hoping that someone out there has been playing with this and has had the same problem and can help.

 

I've created a custom start screen, put it on a client and under test it works fine. The problem is that under test the custom start screen is about the only policy that's applying.

 

When I run it against the full Group Policy the "this PC", "Dcouments", "Pictures" and "Desktop" tiles all vanish. Without a large amout of trial and error I don't know how to find the cause of this.

 

Nothing obvious looks out of place, all the links are enabled for the start menu (both in GP setting and GPP) and everything works OK under Win7. So any ideas what policies could possibly supress them?

 

When I logged in as a test, then logged in with all the polices the icons were there for a second then it looked like they were removed.

Do you have a GPO for Start Menu redirection? I found that you need to make sure the shortcuts for tiles need to be in the same place as the start menu. For example we have the Start Menu folder set to C:\Shortcuts\Students\programs so need to make sure everything you want on the start screen is also in the folder. Hope that makes sense?

How do you do that for modern apps like the camera?

If yo go to

 

User start menu

%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

OR

 

Computer start menu

%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

 

you should see some shortcuts to the modern apps. Just make sure these are copied into the same folder as where your folder redirection for student start menu is
