Little known fact: on the majority of USB calbes (although not all) the 'top' is denoted by the bifurcated arrow symbol. Although that doesn't help if your USB slots on your PCIE cards or Mobo are 'upside down'.....

I do like double-edges connectors but they always feel flimsy and prone to breaking or falling out. I much prefer chamfered connectors like the ones used on whichever MicroUSB phones etc use (unlike the one-way ness of the USBa that you can't tell which way it is without properly looking)
