Seperate my lab network to normal network

Hello,

I am really stuck on configuring our network to be split, what I was trying to achieve was to have my network lab setup without interfering with the normal network I have setup, however I want to be able to use the same gateway for the internet. I will be playing with services such as DNS and DHCP on my server, and I don't want this to have a impact on my network. Is their any suggestions, and please can you brake it down as I am new to networking.

if you dont vant to use a Vlan you could use a smoothwall Express Box and put the lab hardware behind that thus giving you internet and the ability to talk to the lab via RDC.

ive got something similar which lives under my desk at work.

I do it a similar way to @SHimmer45 but instead of smoothwall express, I use a pfSense VM to handle routing for my test network.

i find smoothwall's interface more user friendly if you not familiar with PFsense

Pfsense here too... infact I use pfsense everywhere I can, for various different things and this is one of the segmenting and separating networks.
