integrating Sonos to enteprise network

We're looking at purchasing a SONOS music system and just wondering if anyone has brought one of these onto their corprate wifi network

 

Is there anything I ned to look out for? Im assuming it uses some sort of horrible broadcast protocol similar to bonjour to operate?

They have their own bridge unit they connect to. You can connect the speakers via ethernet too, not tried it at home as the bridge is enough for me.

 

Cracking kit though, when I can afford more I will be doing so.

The way it works (according to them), is that you plug in one device into an Ethernet port, then each device broadcasts on a hidden SSID called Sonosnet (or similar). All the speakers communicate via this ad-hoc peer to peer wifi and not actually via your own network.

 

I have Sonos at home and it is good but it is a hosue so the wifi doesn't have to reach to far from each speaker, to be within range of another one etc. There isn't any broadcasting protocol like bonjoru that I am aware of.

 

If your school is compact you could easily work it out, or if you are using it ina single area then it should also work fine.

One of our departments has just bought a load of Sonos speakers but didn't buy a bridge (I have Sonos at home so know so know how to connect it all up). Naturally, they didn't tell the network team they were getting it despite all IT purchasing having to go through us - 'They're speakers - not IT they cried'. Not quite the same when you need wireless in a building that hasn't got any APs in it.

 

I'm guessing they won't work without the bridge (I have a multiple room setup at home so defo need one). They want two rooms covered and I can get a new AP in there as fortunately for them it was in the plan to do this summer (not that they knew that before buying it though).

The Play 3 and Play 5 don't need a bridge, they have network ports in the back of them.

 

Only "Need" a bridge with Play:1 or if there is no network point near the bigger brother speakers

Ah - they're Play 5 ones. I have a mixture of 1s and 3s with a soundbar and sub at home so needed the bridge for the remote speakers in my 'man cave' etc.
