Bootcamp Question

Have I got this right -

 

Bootcamp is now no longer available for download from Apple

Even if you had a copy it would no longer work - it's now timed out?

Bootcamp is now built into Leopard and this is the only way it can be used

 

One of my schools bought 10 MacBooks (Tiger) at half-term certainly with the intention of them being able to dual boot.

 

Any help/advice/clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know if what you are saying is true, but i found this link which will allow you to download it.

The other way around it is either use Parallels or VM fusion

Oh dear Looks like apple are forcing people to use their flawed upgrade-to-Leopard process if they want that functionality

 

THE WORD has come from the mountain of Cappuccino that users of Boot Camp will have to upgrade to the new Leopard operating system or be sent into the wilderness of the unlicensed there to gnash their teeth in despair.

 

Boot Camp was a bit of software which allowed Mac users to choice which proprietary operating system they used, Windows or OS-X.

 

The method proved popular because it meant that Apple users could finally get to play a few games.

 

Now it seems that Apple wants to use Boot Camp to force users to upgrade to its forthcoming version of OS-X Leopard. Cynics out there are suggesting that the move is because Leopard, like the Vista upgrade for Microsoft, is pretty pointless as it does not give much added value.

 

Apple said on its Web site that Boot Camp expired on September 30, and users would have to upgrade to version 1.4 in order to remain covered under the software license. But the new licence will not be valid long. Apple says that it will expire when Leopard ships this month, will include Boot Camp.

My advice would be to either;

 

uprade to 10.5 now or in the near future.

Install Parallels i you desperately need your users to run windows.

 

seriously, I know what Apple have done is annoying and it follows on from their pathetic behviour regarding iphone unlocking. But either of those steps i've suggested are desirable not a teeth pulling moment. I really don't see what the big deal is. 10.5 is an improvement on 10.4 and you'll be upgrading at some point i guarantee it anyway - plus parallels to a lot

of people is better than bootcamp anyway. look at 10.5 as a large delta upgrade from 10.4.10 - it's a beneficial upgrade in almost all aspects.
