How do you stop chassis switches getting messy?

Bit disappointed but we are having chassis switches fitted as part of a summer project. How do you stop them turning into a jumbled mess of spaghetti? Also the company doing the work are not providing a patching schedule. Edited July 17, 2014 by nicholab

Put them in a cabinet with proper cable management. Really thats the only want to keep the nice and tidy.

I had them like that but it was always a pain to remove a patch lead as it had platted itself into the rest. Also tracing a cable takes so much effort.

You don't need to trace cables as long as you have recorded what goes where in the first place and record any changes.

Good cable management and cable tidy accessories, and cables of suitable length - not too short and not too long.

We are not getting patching schedules so how do you record it?

should have specified a schedule as part of the project - if not give them a spreadsheet with switch port in one column and outlet in column 2 and device in column 3 and get them to fill it in as they go!

Label all the cables and don't use tie wraps, use Velcro straps.
