Fibre Cable

Morning,

 

I just had a new fibre run put in linking 2 building via a catenary. I had 50/125 installed and intended to run via patches back trough 2 cab to the main cab in school to a shiny new Netgear M5300 switch.

 

The problem is the old fibre linking the 2 sites was put in before I arrived and there is no paperwork around for it so not sure what it is... does anyone know of a way to identify the size? I've been buying 62.5/125 patch leads but may have got it wrong. Theres nothing on the cable to identify it and I was tempted to buy something from Ebay to do a bi of testing although not sure what as of yet.

It should be printed on the cable every couple of meters.

You can usually make a fair guess based on the age - when did you arrive there? If it's pre 2005 as per your join date here, you're probably talking OM1 - 62.5/125. You're probably like us in that the vast majority of your cabling will be pre-OM1 (which may be why it's unlabelled), OM1 or OM2. It's only recently that we've had OM4 installed on new projects, we just have to be careful with labelling up patch leads as the colour codes aren't always stuck to. Edited July 10, 2014 by 3s-gtech

I got here 2004. Seen a label on one of the wires saying OM2 but need to do some more investigating. Mixing 62.5 and 50 cant be a good thing.
