merge two sims.net systems

Hi all is it possible to merge two sims.net systems? we will merge with another school soon and will need to have only one mis system?

How about: choosing one system to keep - perhaps the biggest? And then bulk transferring everyone out of the other system - as though they were moving school.

 

That is what I have come up with so far - I would interested to see if there are nicer solutions out there though.

I go with what andy says ie export/import job but it might be worth logging into the capita forum and posting the question there.

im not sure this is even advisable let alone possible. For instance, students from one school to another will need new candidate number data, new unique student id, potential new UCIs - and if the LEA run EMS it will need to see a child leaving one instiution and entering another. The chances of this working properley are preety slim.

 

Your best approach is either

 

a) if its a total new school (ie: a new DSCF number), mark everyone as left on the two seperate SIMS.NET systems and transferring to the new DSCF number - do this properley via the securegateway site with a CTF file

 

b) if one school is staying "open" in legal terms - same DSCF number, transfer the students across via CTF

Do you have a county support team for SIMS. If you do they should be able to help.

Andy's suggestion is sound. Use the CTF export from the smaller school and bring it into SIMS in the larger school.

 

Merging schools data is complex but we have produced a school merge routine that goes much further than a CTF and it is possible that your LA has already purchased this. It makes sense for them to do so as so many schools will be going through this over the next two years. If they haven't we could offer the merge as a service to you if you are interested.
