Convert DVDs or VOB files to Mpeg or AVI or Divx

Does anyone know of any free software that will convert DVDs or VOB files to Mpeg or AVI or Divx.

Handbrake worked for me recently, not sure it works with encrypted files though. I doubt that we are allowed to discuss how to decrypt dvds here but sufice to say there are utilities available.

In the past i have just renamed the vob file to avi or mpeg and its worked. It dosent work with all movies but it has got me out some holes.

 

You just need to make sure you rename the video vob file and not the audio one!

I was just doing this today... Handbrake (on Linux) didn't do the trick but Avidemux worked perfectly. Incidentally, these were unencrypted DVDs from a video camera.
