AppleTV and Sound

Ok we have tried Airserver and that does not work reliably for us.

We now have AppleTv's in all classrooms conected to the projectors via HDMI cables. This works. However sound is not transmitted. The projectors dont have an audio out so I cant run a cable from there to the amp > speakers.

 

Is there any other way before we have to go Long VGA cable and the apple hdmi to vga>sound thing( forgot what they are called but they are expensive)

Something like this maybe? Take the audio out before it gets to the projector and pipe to your amp?

 

***EDIT*** Just as an example, I can't attest to how good they are, just found it, the Idea should be sound though (see what I did there, )

This would work. You can get ones that don't require power though. Might be better to use one of though

Apple TVs already have optical SPDIF outputs on them. Does your amp have a corresponding input? If not, one of these, an appropriately long TOSLINK cable and a cheapy set of RCA cables would work. That's how I've connected my ATV to my stereo amp.

The two solutions we use if the amp does not support optical, send the audio up to the projector and then bring it back to the amp from the projectors audio out, most of them have this. Otherwise a converter as has already been mentioned.
