DBS required for work experience. 20Year old.

Hi,

 

I have been asked if I could take a person for work experience.

 

He's 20year old but has no DBS(CRB).

 

There is just me in the ICT department so toilet breaks would mean leaving him at the desk.

 

Its a special school dealing with learning difficulties.

 

I've been asked if this is ok by the head but its not me that should be deciding I don't think and I haven't a scoobie anyway. Want to return a email with some sort of answer that they can confirm.

 

Any ideas?

I'd personally not take any chances, myself. Certainly not if it's involving pupils with learning difficulties, given they are more vulnerable. Just my £.02

This. The DBS is there for a reason!

Sometimes - on a good day - a constant chaperone would be accepted. But in a special needs school, hell will freeze over before I took my chances with that. No siree.

You have two choices. He is accompanied at all times (impractical)

 

Or the school invites him in to do a volunteer's DBS check a couple of weeks before he does his work experience. This is what we do. It only costs the admin charge to do a DBS for a volunteer; I think it is £7.95 for us.

I work in a special, and I don't leave contractors with a DBS alone.
