andydis Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Hi Everyone, Our office is getting unbearably hot, always 28 degree's + so im looking at a cheapish solution for aircon , but i dont know much about aircon units, i have found the below on ebay , can anyone advise me if it is any good? 18000 BTU INVERTER SPLIT AIR CONDITIONING CONDITIONER WALL MOUNT UNIT | eBay
hallb15 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I'm sorry but that looks dodgy to me. Poor image - no real photo of actual product. No returns. Cash on collection. Permanent Aircon needs to be professionally installed and maintained in a school or business environment.
TLARWise Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I agree, either go fo a professionally installed split system or alternatively you could try a portable unit with the pipe hanging out an open window (try Air Conditioner | Air Conditioners, dehumidifiers and Air Conditioning from AirCon Direct for some possibilities).
3s-gtech Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Those little ~£200 units from aircondirect have pretty good feedback on here from others, I'd stick with them.
hallb15 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I've got one of those portable units from aircon direct. It works OK, but isn't amazing and is so noisy. Last week I got proper air con installed as part of the whole school heating and lighting re-fit (LEDs everywhere!) It is so much better, and more efficient than the portable one. And because it is 'intelligent' it maintains the temperature with minimal fan speed, its near silent most of the time. Even when its on, I can't hear it above the noise coming from the server rack. Then again, I've no idea how much it cost as it was part of the whole school project. I might be able to sell you the portable unit. PM me if interested and I'll speak to our school business manager.
HTCPCP Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 It is a lot easier to get if you share an office with the servers, as you can argue that they are potentially damaging the servers... That really makes the SLT/governors worry. They don't seem to care about staff as much as the cost of equipment
