I wonder if anyone can help, if you've got a genuine pair of these can you tell me if there should be some bare metal showing on the Y piece where the headphone cables separate? You can just see on the attached photo a bit of copper showing. I20140609_145238.jpg

I've followed a guide on how to spot them but whilst some aspects look genuine the metal showing worries me a bit. I've not had chance to listen to them yet so I suppose the proof may be in the pudding!

I think the main clue is how much you paid for them and from where?

The only place I would trust high-end cheap headphones from is Richer Sounds when they have them on clearance. Off the net is taking a gamble.

It's not something you would expect from a set of headphones, but then again, these are currently £20-40 online so they're at the lower end of the Sennheiser spectrum. Could just be cheaper workmanship?

It was eBay, and they were only about £11 cheaper than normal price so it seemed like it might be legit. On Amazon they are £33, if it were any more expensive I would have definitely not used eBay!

Looks to me like there is a piece of 'trim' or cover missing. I would think there should be something in the indented oval to cover the hole where you can see the exposed copper. Remember that two wires have to join to one inside that Y piece so some copper wire there is not unexpected.

I don't think that the bit missing from the joint would indicate a fake; the price however, does.

The screen from each "ear wire" would be exposed in that junction to join them together and to the outer on the main lead.

I've just thrown away the box so I guess I won't know for sure, in their defence they do sound pretty good and I am wearing them on a motorbike so it's not the most acoustically facilitating environment to start with. Thanks all for your help.

I have a pair from a couple of years ago(not sure if the design has changed?) that I got from amazon, in their stress free or economical packaging I forget, so I assume they're genuine. I'll take a pic when I get home.
