Large Power Strips

I think the largest you'll probably find is 8 due to safety. If you had 15 sockets, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to reach the magic 3000w per outlet.

 

An iron for example consumes in the region of 2000w on its own, but most notebooks use anywhere between 60w to 90w each. If you're plugging in desktops, it varies - it's not uncommon for a gaming PC to have a 1000w PSU.

Are you just after standard UK 3 pin sockets on the PDU which plugs into a standard 3 pin wall socket too?

8 is fairly easy. I'd stick two or three 8ways in; not daisy-chainned!

Basically for every 8 or 9 PCs in the office, there are 3 wall ouputs, currently we are using daisy-chained extensions but due to safety looking for an alternative?

You could go for a 15 way PDU - 15 x UK Mains Sockets L/Angled to UK Mains Plug 3Mtr. Technically they are for use in a rack but as long as you have space to mount it then shouldn't be any reason why you cannot mount it under desks.

Watch your power requirements. A desktop and monitor typically draws about 3amps. So 4 computers will max out a 13A fuse.

 

Plug more in and you are risking a fuse blowing, or a fire.

 

It sounds like you seriously need to get an electrician in to install extra permanent sockets.

What kind of desktop and monitors are you using??? 3 amps @ 240v = 720watts - no desktop in my estate uses anywhere near that - more like a max of ~100 watts (0.4 amps) and idle 40 watts (0.16amps).

It has a 3 metre lead which has the UK 3 pin plug on the end.

Also can anybody advise me on fuses? What will i need to do to ensure everything is up to health and safety standards?

Depends on the cable. An extension cable 1.25mm sq can be fused at 13A. It should be no longer than 12m, a 1.5mm cable can be 15m, and a 2.5mm cable 25m (but you won't want to try getting that in a 13A plug!)

 

According to the IETs ACOP for PAT testing, appliance flex of 0.5mm fused at 3A can be as long as you like, and 1.25mm fused at 13A likewise. However, I'd be looking at other things in my RA with very long flexes. Like trip hazards...

I think we are going for a 5m, 6 socket extension, which im sure is 13a?

As long as the cable is 1.25 or 1.5mm sq that is fine.
