manick Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Hi all, I have a Server 2008 R2/Windows 7 network and am about to add a 2012 R2 DC server. I have 3 DCs at present and will be demoting one of them once I've put the 2012 server in place. Is anybody aware of any issues that this may cause or anything I need to keep an eye out for? On another note, has anybody had any success backing up WIN 2012 servers using Backup exec 12.5? Many thanks for any help. Cheers Nick
jaminben Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 As long as you don't demote your PDC and your aware that the 2012 R2 DC will run at a 2008 R2 functional level.
10101010 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Useful guide I came across Migrating Domain Controllers From Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 R2 | Jack Stromberg 1
Duke5A Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Last I looked support for 2012 R2 Server and VMware 5.5 in Backup Exec was still in beta. To be honest though, Backup Exec has turned into such a pile that we're just biding our time now for the current license to expire - we're looking heavily into Veem to replace it.
jdell Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I have been running with 3 2012 R2 DC's since Feb and have had no issues. We did an upgrade on 1 and the rest where clean vm's introduced into the domain and the old one (2003 DC'S) where removed. Last I looked support for 2012 R2 Server and VMware 5.5 in Backup Exec was still in beta. To be honest though, Backup Exec has turned into such a pile that we're just biding our time now for the current license to expire - we're looking heavily into Veem to replace it. I am doing exactly the same thing, Veem seems the way to go, my back up exec jobs fail maybe 10 times out of 11.
FragglePete Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Hi all, On another note, has anybody had any success backing up WIN 2012 servers using Backup exec 12.5? Nick We're using BackUp Exec 2012 to do our 2012R2 servers; however the media server part of BackUp exec does not work on a 2012 server at the moment. Totally bonkers and Symantec really have lost the plot of not being able to support that yet! BE2014 is in final stages of Beta which will support 2012R2 and Hyper-V so we're waiting for that at present. Pete
