YouTube makes its HTML5 player the default for all Chrome users

There's also no way to go back to the Flash-based YouTube player unless you download this extension.

It turns out that the HTML5 player is now enabled by default in Chrome and it's the only player you can use, at least officially. YouTube's HTML5 player now supports all the features of the Flash player, including ads and encrypted streams.

Won't they come back when Chrome is updated?

Yeah, but you can script it to search and delete them. [Or just move them to a backup location to make it fixable.] :p

Am i being Naive about something here?

Flash is the devil, it's holey, requires constant care and feeding and lets kids play moronic games... What could be better than getting rid of another major use for it?

Since YouTube implemented it, it's been causing problems with video playback and quality.

Sometimes videos load incredibly slowly, and waiting for it to buffer is pointless as it doesn't buffer at all.

Some videos are also locked to 360p for some reason. Despite being made and uploaded in 1080p or higher.

I've also had a problem with playlists and HTML5, whereas on flash the video would be numbered as 3/10 [fullscreen, top right on the black youtube bar], on HTML5 it sometimes comes up as 0/1.

They don't happen all the time, but it's annoying and can cause problems if YouTube is being used in classes.

Flash doesn't do this.

Oh, OK... All of our users are using Chrome and we've had no issues at all - and the amount we use it (over 6gb an hour) we would have been told if there was problem!

I watch a lot of youtube indoors, so it's mostly my experience talking.

I'm about 4 videos behind on a DS2 let's-play because it's capped at 360p...

When using the HTML5 player I have come across a lot of videos that were only available in 240p or 360p resolution, whereas in the Flash player they were 720p or higher.

I guess Google still haven't converted all of the videos that people upload?

Given the cr*p people here watch, I'm not sure they would care if it was 400tvl resolution as long as it had people doing stupid stuff on bmx boxes or walkthroughs for minecraft.
