maark Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 I would be interested in whether other schools have this running satisfactorily. We have had so many problems with it: performance is very very slow even if you run a report for one student it can't find templates for a message for an individual report sometimes breaks and loses callback service and site ID requiring restarts of vpn services and applications pools/IIS We have a fairly new sims server running on hyper v which met recommended spec. We are going to replace truancy call with this but it does not seem up to the job? Any feedback appreciated.
maark Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 we get support from LEA - they have been pretty good but this is about the fourth time I have had to raise a call with them about different issues - just wondered what sort of performance other schools get because it seems very slow to run.
mdrabble Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 We have intouch running here and I've had no reports of issues other than being spammed on some occasions. 1
siuko Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 How is your Sims server spec'd? Are you running anything else on the same server? Our server has been struggling with the SQLServer using up all the ram and not having enough to keep the InTouch services working (well this was the reason our support gave) So I have limited the Max memory that the SQL server can use to see if that helps... Possibly something to look at? 1
nikaso Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 We have occasionally had issues with the callback service requiring intervention but generally it's fairly robust. 1
woodham Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 the only real issue we have is that it's very fussy about time sync if your server time is out by more that about 2 mins with GMT then it wont work 1
maark Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 thanks for replies - will check time sync and sql ram
PhillipHamlyn Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 All, The next major release of InTouch will remove the requirement for a VPN and callback service in the school. In place of the current need for our central servers to call into the school (with attendant requirements for firewall routing into the school server) we are replacing that component with a regular "heartbeat" call from the school's InTouch server to the InTouch server farm. This is intended to simplify maintenance, installation and provide a more robust environment for server changes etc. This is currently targetted for release in 2014. There are other changes and improvements to InTouch which will be communicated through the normal channels via our product management team; but as this specific technical issue came up in this thread, I thought it would be useful to let the community knew what we were working on in this regard. jonnykewell1 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Just to add to this, I have had a report that intouch is down today from one of our members of staff, I noticed the openVPN wasn't connecting. Looking into this now.
Kyle Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Just out of interest, What sort of problems were you having?
