ndavies Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Hi After SIMS migration to SQL Express, we need to alter the back up job to exclude the old SQL instance and include the new SQL2005 instance of the SIMS database for the backups, in backup exec. I've tried editing the job and selecting the SIMS2005 SQL instance but it won't let me saying "couldn't connect to the database" Anybody done this successfully. any tips?! Nick
Disease Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 You need to upgrade to BUE 11d as vrs 10 does not support SQL 2005
Vegas Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 What version of Backup Exec do you have? Version 9.1 isn't compatible and version 10 needs a plugin.
Vegas Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Hotfix for vers 10.1 http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/280204.htm
Disease Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Cool, though I needed an excuse to update my BUE anyway, and 11d has lots of sexy new features.
ndavies Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 We're using 10d...11d it is then. Nick
DMcCoy Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 10d does support backing up sql 2005 with the hotfix, it doesn't support using an sql 2005 instance for its own database.
ndavies Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Applied the patch and it's now let me select SIMS2005...just hope it backs up. been getting these errors Event ID: 57860 "An error occurred while attempting to log in to the following server... SQL error number: "0011"" is seen when backing up a server with SQL installed. ..maybe the patch might fix this....
m25man Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Has anybody had a problem with Synetrix (LGFL) Online Backup since the upgrade to SQL 2005? I have one thats failed to backup and according to the log it tells you that it's using the wrong version of DBAttach? Reqs Ver1.2 or above and the version in 2005 is 1.7? So the LEA's SIMS team did a cracking job, the server has Veritas 9.1 with SQL2000 agent so that's buggered, the Synetrix Online Backup (Now also Screwed) and I can't find a SQL Manager backup in the backup folder since the upgrade date either. The school now has no functional Sims Backup at all!
AnnDroyd Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 After upgrading from Backup Exec 9 to 11D, I've found that I can no longer restore from backup sets created with the previous version. Is this by design or is there a way around it?
zag Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 You can restore the backups using the windows backup utility I thought. They are the same format. There are also lots of BKF recovery tools available if its corrupted in some way.
