2 DC's - client mismatch

Hey guys,

 

So recently i have set up a 2012 R2 Secondary DC on my network, to replace an old 2003 DC. Users desktops and start menus were redirected to the old server, but are now redirected to the new server. I have updated all GPO's and logon scripts to point clients to the new server etc. I have a small handful of PC's that will not look to the new server for the desktop and start menu. I have done gpupdate /force, all scripts changed and GPO's are even replicating with new redirection settings to the old server, but still clients look at the old folders...why!? Driving me insane! Are there any Profiles still stored on the clients ? - may be worth clearing them if so.

 

That way the machine will pull down a new profile when a User logs on, updating all of the settings.

 

Make sure there is nothing stored like user files in the profiles before clearing them... if you don't use roaming profiles.

Aye I'd suggest removing all local profiles from C:\Docs&Setts or C:\Users then reboot, gpupdate and logon.

 

If this doesn't work, try re-imaging one.

 

If you have no replication errors it sounds like something has been cached somewhere.

You may also need to remove the profiles from the registry too - HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ProfileList

 

Delete the corresponding entries.

Presumably you've updated DHCP server to include your new 2012 server (in the list of DNS servers), but also (more crucially) that the servers are replicating correctly?

 

By default, new Windows servers will not replicate DNS to other DCs. You need to over-ride this in DNS Server by right clicking each zone (in turn), selecting Properties > Zone Transfers. Do this for every DC.

I have no replication issues, and my new 2012 R2 DC is DHCP server so that can't be the issue...

 

I have just checked DNS and all seems to be the same?

What settings do you get if you open gp management on the 2003 server,compared with the 2012 r2 one?

Are they the same?
