Good morning,

I have recently set up a 2012 R2 DC on my network, as part of a network upgrade from XP to 7. I am in the process of installing KMS for windows activation. I have installed the Volume activation Tools role on the server, and go through until i click "commit" to activate the KMS host, but i get a security error (please see attached image). Why do i get this error? i can't seem to find a decent guide on how to set up KMS for windows 7 on server 2012 R2, and i am new to KMS. Anything else i need to do before this, or anything i need to check when installing? Thanks in advance,

Regards

Harry

does event viewer give anymore detail?

port on the firewall open/server able to talk to MS to activate the key, as that to me would be the 1st area to look.

Are you logged in as domain admin or a local admin? Had no end of trouble trying to use a local admin account on 2012 for some reason using domain admin sorted it

Thanks for getting back to me guys. I have checked the firewall, but KMS is enabled, and as a test i turned the firewall off completely. I still get this security error though. I am logged on as Domain Administrator.

Ok i am activated now, activated over the phone in the end. What do i do now to get windows 7 clients to look to KMS? The SRV record in DNS for KMS is in place.

wait basically. I run this as a batch file to see how many requests the server has had

cscript.exe C:\Windows\System32\slmgr.vbs /dlv > "C:\Users\me\Desktop\kms.txt"

pause

if your doing fresh installs the generic KMS key for win7 will cause it to look for a KMS host to register against, its pretty much a fire and forget process

is that the KMS key listed under windows 7 in the VLSC?

unless you want your win7 box to be a kms server NEVER use the kms win7 key also goes for all client keys

I now have clients activated - thanks for the help. I am now trying to install my office 2010 KMS key - but i keep getting the same error. Turns out this error means that my KMS Servers time is out of sync from the Microsoft Activation Servers - but the date and time on the KMS server is as it should be! Error is [h=1]0x80072F8F[/h]
