Yeo695 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Doing a favor for a family member, since I'm the only member in the family who knows anything about technology so I figured I would give it a go. They need to make a college admission video. I need to edit a few parts, ad subtitles for a few parts, cut a few parts short and merge about 6 clips together. I also filmed everything in 1920x1080 30fps. What (free software) would you suggest I use to edit?

You could use Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker: Movie Maker - Microsoft Windows which is free or if you have a Mac you can use iMovie
SpuffMonkey Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Have a look at avidemux or Freemake - they'll do most of it - you can get quite a few "how to" guides on afterdawn.com
LosOjos Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 +1 for Windows Live Movie Maker - it's simple enough to "just use", free and will do everything you need. Not as flexible as some other packages but if you're on a deadline and just want to get it done, it's a very good place to start
tmcd35 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Discovered this the other day: OpenShot Video Editor | Download They've got a live DVD so no need to install, boot from DVD and get straight to work. Very feature rich, but also extremely easy to use. Very, very similar to iMovie on the Mac. Personally I think it's a better choice than Movie Maker.
