Missing "asms" file

I am trying to install a legitimate copy of Windows XP Home on a home PC.

 

Part way through the setup process is tells me that "the file 'asms' on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 is needed".

 

The Install CD I'm using is pre-SP1 as it is an old PC I am reinstalling.

 

Any ideas what to do about this?
